To reduce aluminum refinery emissions
Lanjigarh, Kalahandi District, Odisha, (Swa News) : Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh India’s leading producer of metallurgical grade alumina has adopted advanced energy management system at its power plant in its unit. It will help monitor the performance benchmarks of 120 critical electrical assets, thereby improving energy efficiency in the plant. It is an advanced digitalization effort that will lead to increased operational optimization and automation of refinery operations.
Energy management is an essential component to ensure systematic monitoring, analysis and optimization of complex operations. which leads to overall energy efficiency and facilitates the operation of the central database.
Alumina refining process has a significant energy contribution. The implementation of advanced, automated and data-driven processes increases energy efficiency and reduces greenhouse gas emissions to achieve ESG goals.

Vedanta’s Alumina Refinery has been awarded power and energy efficiency performance awards under several Confederation of Indian Industry circles and Bureau of Energy (FCC), Government of India for its energy efficiency initiatives.
Vedanta Aluminum has pledged to achieve NetZero by 2050 and has taken steps to reduce its carbon footprint. The company has adopted a two-fold policy to ensure a greener future through its operations and this journey marks major milestones achieved for the company which are-
- While increasing production by 16%, SHG has reduced productivity by 8% over the FY23 baseline.
- Recycled more than 15 billion liters of water in its operations in FY24.
- A significant role in water withdrawal from fresh water sources has reduced by 11%
- 1.5 million cubic kilometers of fresh water storage
- Doubled waste material utilization to 2000% in fiscal year 2013
- Contributed to water utility restoration projects in more than 60 rural areas.
