Emergency Blood Donation Camp in Banki

Banki, : Blood banks across Odisha are facing an acute shortage of blood as the scorching summer persists across the state. To address this emerging issue, an emergency blood donation camp was conducted at the Banki-Dampada Block Gayala Bank High School, spearheaded by the International Council of Education Employment and Empowerment, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Sudhansu Shekhar Mishra, HOD Neurosurgery and the superintendent of SCB Medical College & Hospital Cuttack, inaugurated the camp, emphasizing the invaluable impact of blood donation in saving lives. He underscored the urgent need for donations, particularly during the summer months.

Under the guidance of Pradeep Tripathy, Program Director of the International Council of Education Employment and Empowerment, Bhubaneswar, the event was conducted in collaboration with Sai Samarth Hospital – Jata Mundia and Social Institution Astitwa. Experienced healthcare professionals from Sai Samarth Hospital provided free health check-ups and awareness sessions on blood donation—additionally, doctors from various specialties conducted screenings for attendees.

Dr. Mishra acknowledged the local individuals for their remarkable contributions to social service. Notable blood donors included Chinmay Kumar Singh, Bipin Sutar, Madhusmita Ray, Manmath Das, and Subasini Rout. Padmalochan Mohapatra, coordinator of the IC3E.ORG, presided over the program, proposing to commemorate this initiative annually as “Banki Blood Donation Day.”

Esteemed guests, including School Principal Shrimati Manjulata Subudhi, Sai Samarth Hospital Director Abinash Swain, School Committee President Bipin Sutar, Bhagipur Sarpanch Santosh Sutar, Gayala Bank Primary Health Center CO Subarna Pradhan, CRP Chakradhar Pradhan, and Bhagipur Forester Anam Kumar Hemaram graced the event. Their presence encouraged and motivated donors.

Blood collection was efficiently managed by lab technicians Ranjan Kumar Das, Vijay Kumar Singh, and Saroj Mohanty, under the supervision of Cuttack Red Cross Dr. Binayak Prusti. Goutam Mishra, renowned journalist, and Secretary Astitwa, extended support to the camp, uplifting the spirits of blood donors.
