Cuttack, September 30, 2026: Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the CSR arm of Dalmia Bharat Ltd., one of India’s leading cement companies, inaugurated a Tailoring Training Centre at Paria in Barchana Block, Jajapur, located near Dalmia Cement’s Cuttack plant- Kapilas Cement Works (KCW), Odisha as part of its ongoing Women Skilling and Livelihood Development Initiative. Tailoring has been identified as a viable livelihood avenue that offers flexibility, particularly for women who may prefer to work from home or establish small-scale enterprises within their communities. The initiative aims to equip rural women with practical, livelihood-oriented skills and create pathways towards enhanced employability, self-employment and economic independence. The inauguration witnessed the participation of around 200 women, youth, community members and local leaders, along with key stakeholders including the ABDO, Barchana; Sri Gyana Da Nayak, Mrs Ranjita Rani Patnaik; BPM OLM Barchana, Mr Debi Prasad Das, Unit Head, KCW; Sri Benudhar Biswal,Sarpanch Paria; Sri Debabrata Behera, IDBI Bank Manager-Paria Branch and other DBF CSR team.
The first batch comprises 25 women trainees, with a qualified trainer engaged to conduct the programme. The three-month training programme will be conducted daily from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, offering participants hands-on learning and practical exposure to tailoring. Upon completion of the first batch, the centre will enrol the next group of beneficiaries, enabling the initiative to reach more women from the surrounding communities over time.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr Debi Prasad Das, Unit Head, Cuttack, DCBL, said “Equipping women with relevant skills can create meaningful pathways towards greater economic independence and sustainable livelihoods. Through this initiative, we are creating a local platform where women can learn a practical trade, explore self-employment and take steps towards greater financial independence. With successive batches planned at the centre, our endeavour is to extend these opportunities to more women and contribute to stronger, more resilient livelihoods in the surrounding communities.”
The initiative is part of DBF’s broader commitment to promoting inclusive and sustainable community development through interventions focused on skill development, livelihoods and women’s empowerment. By enabling rural women to acquire income-generating skills, the programme seeks to strengthen their economic participation and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the community.
