Bhubaneswar, July 14, 2026: Marking a significant step towards accelerating clean energy adoption, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, launched Odisha’s first-ever ‘Solar Rath’, a unique mobile awareness campaign to promote the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and encourage households to adopt rooftop solar.
The Solar Rath was flagged off at the Power Distribution Technology Centre (PDTC), Bhubaneswar, by Shri Gajanan S. Kale, Chief of Odisha Distribution Business and CEO, TPCODL and Mr Himal Tewari, CHRO & Chief Sustainability & CSR, TATA POWER, in the presence of the company’s senior leadership team.
As part of the initiative, Solar Rath vehicles will travel across the Puri and Dhenkanal regions, taking awareness on rooftop solar directly to consumers. Accompanying the campaign is ‘Solar Sanga’, a dedicated outreach ambassador who will educate residents about the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, explain the benefits of rooftop solar, central and state government subsidies, eligibility criteria and the application process, while creating awareness about rooftop solar solutions, including the 1 kW ULA Model , to help consumers identify options best suited to their energy needs.
The campaign aims to make reliable information on rooftop solar easily accessible, enabling households to reduce electricity bills, generate clean energy and contribute to a more sustainable future. Through village visits, community interactions and awareness sessions, TPCODL seeks to encourage greater participation in the Government of India’s flagship rooftop solar programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Gajanan S. Kale, Chief of Odisha Distribution Business and CEO, TPCODL said, “The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a transformative initiative that empowers consumers to generate their own clean energy while reducing electricity costs. Through Odisha’s first Solar Rath, we are taking awareness directly to people’s doorsteps, helping them understand the benefits of rooftop solar and the ease of availing government support. At TPCODL, we remain committed to enabling a greener and more sustainable energy future by encouraging greater adoption of renewable energy across our distribution area.”
The Solar Rath will visit villages, marketplaces and prominent public locations, where consumers can interact with Solar Sanga and receive guidance on adopting rooftop solar. Through this first-of-its-kind initiative, TPCODL continues to strengthen consumer engagement while supporting the Government’s vision of expanding renewable energy adoption and building a cleaner, energy-secure Odisha.
