Burla, September 21, 2026: Taking rooftop solar awareness directly to people’s doorsteps, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has commenced its Solar Rath outreach and awareness programme in Baragada district. The initiative aims to help more households understand the benefits of rooftop solar and how they can avail themselves of the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The Solar Rath was flagged off by Shri Aditya Goyal, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, Baragada, on September 19 at the Collectorate Campus. Following the official launch of the Solar Rath awareness programme in Sambalpur by Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, the awareness journey has now gone to Baragada, taking information on rooftop solar and the PM Surya Ghar scheme to more communities across Western Odisha.
From Baragada town, the Solar Rath will travel through Rengali Camp, Attabira, Saranda, Lahanda, Godbhaga, Tora, Bheden and Thuapali, visiting villages, residential areas, marketplaces and other public places. Consumers can meet the outreach team, ask questions and get practical information about rooftop solar, including eligibility, government subsidies, application procedures and installation.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Aditya Goyal, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate, Baragada , said, “The Solar Rath is a meaningful effort to take awareness about rooftop solar and the PM Surya Ghar scheme directly to the people. When consumers receive clear information about the benefits, subsidy and process, it becomes easier for them to understand whether rooftop solar is suitable for their households. Such community-level initiatives can help build wider participation in clean energy.”
To make the campaign more accessible, ‘Solar Sanga’ (Solar Buddy) will interact with consumers and guide them on rooftop solar adoption. TPWODL’s ‘Solar Didi’, comprising women SHG members and grassroots solar champions, will also reach out to households through door-to-door visits and community interactions.
Through the Solar Rath, TPWODL is taking information about rooftop solar beyond awareness messages and directly into communities. The campaign will continue across Baragada, helping households understand the process and explore the benefits of switching to solar energy under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
